Which Country Exports the Most Avocados in the World?

Global avocado exports amounted to 1,557 thousand tonnes in 2015, rising by +12.3% against the previous year level. Overall, the global avocado exports indicated a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.3% over the last eight years.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2009, when the output figure increased by +20% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global avocado exports reached its maximum volume in 2015, and is likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, global exports amounted to $3,156 million in 2015. Overall, the value of global exports increased tangibly from 2007 to 2015, expanding at an average annual rate of +11.6%. This trend pattern, however, fluctuated wildly throughout the analyzed period.

Avocado Imports By Country

The country with the largest volume of the avocado exports in absolute volumes was Mexico (864 thousand tonnes), accounting for 55% of global exports. It was followed by Peru (176 thousand tonnes), with a share of 11% of global exports. Moreover, avocado exports in Mexico exceeded the figures recorded by the world's second largest exporter, Peru, fivefold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by the Netherlands with a share of 7%.

From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of avocado exports in Mexico stood at +14.2%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual growth rates: Peru (+21.3% per year) and the Netherlands (+13.6% per year).

In value terms, the country with the largest volume of exports of avocado in absolute volumes was Mexico (1,632 million USD), making up 52% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by the Netherlands (323 million USD), with a share of 10% of global exports. Moreover, avocado exports in Mexico exceeded the figures recorded by the world's second largest importer, the Netherlands (323 million USD), fivefold. It was followed by Peru with a share of 10%.

From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of avocado exports in Mexico was at +13.3%. The remaining exporting countries experienced the following average annual growth rates: the Netherlands (+18.0% per year) and Peru (+26.3% per year).
