In 2020, overseas shipments of avocados decreased by -X% to X tonnes, falling for the second year in a row after three years of growth. Over the period under review, exports recorded a perceptible downturn. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of X% year-to-year. The exports peaked at X tonnes in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, avocado exports reduced to $X in 2020. In general, exports saw a noticeable reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2010 with an increase of X% year-to-year. The exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Hong Kong SAR (X tonnes) was the main destination for avocado exports from Singapore, accounting for a X% share of total exports. Moreover, avocado exports to Hong Kong SAR exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Brunei Darussalam (X tonnes), more than tenfold.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume to Hong Kong SAR totaled -X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Brunei Darussalam (-X% per year) and Cambodia (-X% per year).

In value terms, Hong Kong SAR ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for avocado exports from Singapore, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Brunei Darussalam ($X), with a X% share of total exports.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of value to Hong Kong SAR amounted to -X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Brunei Darussalam (+X% per year) and Cambodia (-X% per year).

In 2020, the average avocado export price amounted to $X per tonne, standing approx. at the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the average export price increased by X% y-o-y. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per tonne. From 2016 to 2020, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Brunei Darussalam ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Hong Kong SAR ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Brunei Darussalam (+X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2020, purchases abroad of avocados decreased by -X% to X tonnes for the first time since 2017, thus ending a two-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, saw resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2008 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2019, and then dropped notably in the following year.

In value terms, avocado imports shrank dramatically to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Imports peaked at $X in 2019, and then contracted markedly in the following year.

Imports by Country

Kenya (X tonnes), Australia (X tonnes) and the United States (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of avocado imports to Singapore, together accounting for X% of total imports.

From 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in the United States (+X%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Australia ($X), the United States ($X) and Kenya ($X) appeared to be the largest avocado suppliers to Singapore, with a combined X% share of total imports.
