Avocado Market Size in China

In 2019, the Chinese avocado market decreased by -X% to $X for the first time since 2011, thus ending a seven-year rising trend. Over the period under review, consumption, however, showed a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the market value increased by X% against the previous year. Avocado consumption peaked at $X in 2018, and then reduced rapidly in the following year.

Avocado Production in China

In value terms, avocado production declined significantly to $X in 2019 estimated in export prices. In general, production showed a tangible increase. Over the period under review, exports reached the peak figure at X tonnes in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2019, exports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, avocado exports amounted to $X in 2019. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Exports peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2019, exports failed to regain the momentum.

Exports by Country

The Netherlands (X tonnes), Hong Kong SAR (X tonnes) and Saudi Arabia (X tonnes) were the main destinations of avocado exports from China, with a combined X% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Kazakhstan, which accounted for a further X 2007 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Kazakhstan (+X% per year), while exports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) emerged as the key foreign market for avocado exports from China, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Hong Kong SAR ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Saudi Arabia, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2019, the average annual growth rate of value to the Netherlands stood at +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Hong Kong SAR (+X% per year) and Saudi Arabia (-X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2019, the average avocado export price amounted to $X per tonne, with a decrease of -X% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of X% y-o-y. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2018, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2019, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Saudi Arabia ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per tonne in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2019, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2019, the highest prices were recorded for prices from Peru ($X per tonne) and Chile ($X per tonne), while the price for Hong Kong SAR ($X per tonne) and Mexico ($X per tonne) were amongst the lowest.
