Exports from the Netherlands
For the fourteenth year in a row, the Netherlands recorded growth in shipments abroad of avocados, which increased by X% to X tonnes in 2020. In general, exports enjoyed a strong increase. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, avocado exports surged to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2020 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Germany (X tonnes), France (X tonnes) and Denmark (X tonnes) were the main destinations of avocado exports from the Netherlands, with a combined X% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Spain, Sweden, the UK, Poland, Belgium, Norway, Italy, Austria, Switzerland and Romania, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Romania (+X%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Germany ($X), France ($X) and Denmark ($X) constituted the largest markets for avocado exported from the Netherlands worldwide, together comprising X% of total exports. These countries were followed by Norway, Sweden, Poland, the UK, Belgium, Spain, Switzerland, Austria, Italy and Romania, which together accounted for a further X, with a CAGR of +X%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2020, the average avocado export price amounted to $X per tonne, declining by -X% against the previous year. Over the last thirteen-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +X%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 an increase of X% year-to-year. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2020, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Norway ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Spain ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Austria (+X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Netherlands
For the third consecutive year, the Netherlands recorded growth in supplies from abroad of avocados, which increased by X% to X tonnes in 2020. Overall, imports showed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Imports peaked in 2020 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, avocado imports soared to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a significant expansion. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2020, Peru (X tonnes) constituted the largest supplier of avocado to the Netherlands, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, avocado imports from Peru exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Chile (X tonnes), threefold. Colombia (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total imports with a X% share.
From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Peru stood at +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Chile (+X% per year) and Colombia (+X% per year).
In value terms, Peru ($X) constituted the largest supplier of avocado to the Netherlands, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Chile ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by Colombia, with a X% share.
From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Peru amounted to +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Chile (+X% per year) and Colombia (+X% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average avocado import price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, with an increase of X% against the previous year. Overall, import price indicated a moderate expansion from 2007 to 2020: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, avocado import price increased by +X% against 2017 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011 when the average import price increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum in 2020 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2020, the highest prices were recorded for prices from Spain ($X per tonne) and Chile ($X per tonne), while the price for Kenya ($X per tonne) and South Africa ($X per tonne) were amongst the lowest.
