Avocado Market Size in Turkey

In 2020, overseas shipments of avocados increased by X% to X tonnes, rising for the sixth year in a row after two years of decline. In general, exports continue to indicate a significant increase. As a result, exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, avocado exports surged to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports recorded significant growth. As a result, exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Ukraine (X tonnes), Iraq (X tonnes) and Bulgaria (X tonnes) were the main destinations of avocado exports from Turkey, with a combined X% share of total exports. Romania, Georgia, Azerbaijan and Moldova lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Romania (+X% per year), while exports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for avocado exported from Turkey were Romania ($X), Ukraine ($X) and Bulgaria ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports.

Among the main countries of destination, Romania (+X% per year) recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2020, the average avocado export price amounted to $X per tonne, jumping by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 an increase of X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average export prices hit record highs at $X per tonne in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Romania ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Georgia ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Ukraine, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

For the ninth year in a row, Turkey recorded growth in purchases abroad of avocados, which increased by X% to X tonnes in 2020. In general, imports recorded a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2012 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. Imports peaked in 2020 and are likely to see steady growth in years to come.

In value terms, avocado imports soared to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2020 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

In 2020, Kenya (X tonnes) constituted the largest supplier of avocado to Turkey, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, avocado imports from Kenya exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Peru (X tonnes), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by South Africa (X tonnes), with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Kenya totaled +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Peru (+X% per year) and South Africa (+X% per year).

The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per tonne in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2020, the highest prices were recorded for prices from South Africa ($X per tonne) and Peru ($X per tonne), while the price for Chile ($X per tonne) and Colombia ($X per tonne) were amongst the lowest.
