Exports from the UK
For the fifth year in a row, the UK recorded decline in shipments abroad of avocados, which decreased by -X% to X tonnes in 2020. In general, exports continue to indicate a perceptible contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of X% y-o-y. The exports peaked at X tonnes in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, avocado exports expanded modestly to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports recorded temperate growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. The exports peaked in 2020 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Ireland (X tonnes), the Netherlands (X tonnes) and Germany (X tonnes) were the main destinations of avocado exports from the UK, together comprising X% of total exports.
From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Germany (+X%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for avocado exported from the UK were Ireland ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Germany ($X), together comprising X% of total exports.
Germany, with a CAGR of +X%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2020, the average avocado export price amounted to $X per tonne, with an increase of X% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated a strong increase from 2007 to 2020: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, avocado export price increased by +X% against 2007 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2010 an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in 2020 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Spain ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Germany (+X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the UK
In 2020, imports of avocados into the UK totaled X tonnes, surging by X% compared with the year before. Overall, imports showed buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, avocado imports rose significantly to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2020, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2020, Peru (X tonnes) constituted the largest avocado supplier to the UK, accounting for a X% share of total imports. Moreover, avocado imports from Peru exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Chile (X tonnes), twofold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by South Africa (X tonnes), with an X% share.
From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from Peru amounted to +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Chile (+X% per year) and South Africa (+X% per year).
In value terms, the largest avocado suppliers to the UK were Peru ($X), Chile ($X) and Israel ($X), together comprising X% of total imports. Spain, South Africa, Germany, the Netherlands, Mexico and Colombia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X, with a CAGR of +X%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average avocado import price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, dropping by -X% against the previous year. Over the last thirteen years, it increased at an average annual rate of +X%. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2011 when the average import price increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $X per tonne in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2020, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Germany ($X per tonne), while the price for South Africa ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
