China is one of the leaders in the global grapefruit trade. In 2014, China exported 137 thousand tonnes of grapefruit totaling 131 million USD, 4% under the previous year. Its primary trading partner on the global grapefruit market was the Netherlands, where it supplied 39% of its total grapefruit exports in value terms, accounting for 34% of the Netherlands' total imports.

From 2007 to 2014, China was a net exporter of grapefruit. Over this period, exports consistently exceeded imports in value terms. In physical terms this difference was even more pronounced.

The Netherlands and the U.S. were among the other main global suppliers of grapefruit in 2014. However, the fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2014 were China (+15% per year) and Germany (+10% per year). China, by virtue of this sustained growth, was able to strengthen its already leading position in the global export structure.

China's top 5 trading partners in 2014 were the Netherlands, the Russian Federation, Romania, Lithuania and Germany, with a combined share 80% of China's grapefruit exports. The share of the Netherlands increased modestly (+2 percentage points), while the share of the Russian Federation illustrated slight negative dynamics (-2 percentage points).
