These countries were followed by Romania, Lithuania, Canada, Hong Kong SAR, Vietnam and Germany, which together accounted for a further X 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Vietnam (+X%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for grapefruit exported from China were the Netherlands ($X), Russia ($X) and Ukraine ($X), with a combined X% share of total exports. Vietnam, Hong Kong SAR, Romania, Canada, Lithuania and Germany lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X the main countries of destination, Vietnam, with a CAGR of +X%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average grapefruit export price stood at $X per tonne in 2021, picking up by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of X% y-o-y. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Romania ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hong Kong SAR (+X%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Grapefruit Imports
Imports into China
In 2021, approx. X tonnes of grapefruits were imported into China; reducing by -X% on the year before. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tonnes. From 2019 to 2021, the growth imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, grapefruit imports contracted to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, South Africa (X tonnes) constituted the largest grapefruit supplier to China, with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, grapefruit imports from South Africa exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Thailand (X tonnes), sevenfold. Israel (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total imports with a X% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume from South Africa amounted to +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (+X% per year) and Israel (+X% per year).
In value terms, South Africa ($X) constituted the largest supplier of grapefruit to China, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Thailand ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by Israel, with an X% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from South Africa stood at +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Thailand (+X% per year) and Israel (+X% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The average grapefruit import price stood at $X per tonne in 2021, surging by X% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a slight decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per tonne in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per tonne), while the price for South Africa ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+X%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
