In value terms, grapefruit exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports recorded a buoyant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 831% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Poland (X tons), France (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) were the main destinations of grapefruit exports from Colombia, together comprising 93% of total exports. These countries were followed by Iceland and Montenegro, which together accounted for a further 4.8%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Iceland (with a CAGR of +865.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Poland ($X) remains the key foreign market for grapefruit exports from Colombia, comprising 49% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by France ($X), with a 22% share of total exports. It was followed by the Czech Republic, with an 18% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value to Poland amounted to +26.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: France (+8.5% per year) and the Czech Republic (+34.2% per year).

The average grapefruit export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, remaining constant against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a slight increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the average export price increased by 38% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Montenegro ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2021, supplies from abroad of grapefruits decreased by -11.7% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports saw a pronounced contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 106%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, grapefruit imports reduced modestly to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a perceptible curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 108% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Peru (X tons), the United States (X tons) and Chile (X tons) were the main suppliers of grapefruit imports to Colombia, with a combined 94% share of total imports. These countries were followed by the Dominican Republic and Spain, which together accounted for a further 6.5%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by the Dominican Republic (with a CAGR of +29.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest grapefruit suppliers to Colombia were Peru ($X), the United States ($X) and Chile ($X), with a combined 97% share of total imports. Spain and the Dominican Republic lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 3.4%.
In terms of the main suppliers, the Dominican Republic, with a CAGR of +26.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average grapefruit import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 11% against the previous year. Over the last nine years, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2015; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the price for the Dominican Republic ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
