In general, consumption continues to indicate a slight curtailment. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. In value terms, concentrated orange juice production reduced to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 16% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X, and then reduced in the following year.

In 2021, shipments abroad of concentrated orange juice was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2013, thus ending a seven-year declining trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 5.2%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the global exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, concentrated orange juice exports expanded remarkably to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a pronounced contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 11% against the previous year. The global exports peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Brazil was the largest exporting country with an export of about X tons, which recorded 45% of total exports. The Netherlands (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Belgium (X tons) and Mexico (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 31% share of total exports. The following exporters - Italy (X tons), Costa Rica (X tons) and South Africa (X tons) - together made up 7.3% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to concentrated orange juice exports from Brazil stood at -2.0%. At the same time, Costa Rica (+15.5%), Mexico (+7.7%), South Africa (+1.7%) and the Netherlands (+1.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Costa Rica emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +15.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Italy (-1.5%) and Belgium (-9.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The Netherlands (+6.1 p.p.), Brazil (+5.9 p.p.), Mexico (+4.6 p.p.) and Costa Rica (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global exports, while Belgium saw its share reduced by -5.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Brazil ($X) remains the largest concentrated orange juice supplier worldwide, comprising 42% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Netherlands ($X), with an 18% share of global exports. It was followed by Belgium, with a 9.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Brazil amounted to -5.6%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the Netherlands (-0.4% per year) and Belgium (-10.8% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average concentrated orange juice export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 5.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a slight setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average export price increased by 14% against the previous year. The global export price peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per ton), while Costa Rica ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+4.2%), while the other global leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

For the third year in a row, the global market recorded decline in overseas purchases of concentrated orange juice, which decreased by -10.4% to X tons in 2021. Overall, imports showed a deep slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when imports increased by 15%. Global imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, concentrated orange juice imports fell to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a perceptible decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 8.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, global imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, the Netherlands (X tons), followed by the United States (X tons), Germany (X tons), Belgium (X tons), the UK (X tons), France (X tons) and China (X tons) were the major importers of concentrated orange juice, together making up 61% of total imports. The following importers - Poland (X tons), Spain (X tons), Japan (X tons), Ireland (X tons), Russia (X tons) and Canada (X tons) - together made up 14% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Poland (with a CAGR of +7.6%), while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest concentrated orange juice importing markets worldwide were the Netherlands ($X), the United States ($X) and Germany ($X), together accounting for 36% of global imports. These countries were followed by Belgium, the UK, France, China, Poland, Russia, Japan, Ireland, Spain and Canada, which together accounted for a further 39%.

Among the main importing countries, Poland, with a CAGR of +5.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

The average concentrated orange juice import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 10% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.2%. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when the average import price increased by 29%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
