In value terms, concentrated orange juice production expanded rapidly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the period from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the production volume increased by 18%. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X. From 2020 to 2021, production growth failed to regain momentum.

After six years of decline, shipments abroad of concentrated orange juice increased by 2.6% to X tons in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a perceptible downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 8.2%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, concentrated orange juice exports totaled $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a perceptible curtailment. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Israel (X tons), Saudi Arabia (X tons), Thailand (X tons) and Pakistan (X tons) was the major exporter of concentrated orange juice in Asia, creating 67% of total export. Nepal (X tons) held the next position in the ranking, followed by Turkey (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 13% share of total exports. Taiwan (Chinese) (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Cyprus (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Turkey (with a CAGR of +11.2%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Israel ($X) remains the largest concentrated orange juice supplier in Asia, comprising 33% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Thailand ($X), with a 12% share of total exports. It was followed by Pakistan, with a 10% share.

In Israel, concentrated orange juice exports shrank by an average annual rate of -6.3% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Thailand (-1.7% per year) and Pakistan (-0.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Asia stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 7.4% against the previous year. In general, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 13% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Israel ($X per ton), while Saudi Arabia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Over the period under review, imports saw a perceptible downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 4%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, concentrated orange juice imports fell to $X in 2021. In general, imports saw a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 9.1% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, China (X tons) was the key importer of concentrated orange juice, comprising 37% of total imports. Japan (X tons) took a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Saudi Arabia (8.2%) and South Korea (4.7%). Israel (X tons), India (X tons), Indonesia (X tons), Oman (X tons), Bahrain (X tons), Turkey (X tons), Thailand (X tons), the United Arab Emirates (X tons) and Malaysia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into China increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, India (+5.7%) and Indonesia (+5.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, India emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Asia, with a CAGR of +5.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Turkey (-1.0%), Israel (-1.7%), Saudi Arabia (-2.9%), Malaysia (-4.0%), Oman (-4.5%), Thailand (-4.7%), Bahrain (-7.3%), Japan (-9.0%), the United Arab Emirates (-10.2%) and South Korea (-13.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of China (+21 p.p.), India (+1.8 p.p.) and Indonesia (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of South Korea (-7 p.p.) and Japan (-9.6 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest concentrated orange juice importing markets in Asia were China ($X), Japan ($X) and Saudi Arabia ($X), together accounting for 61% of total imports. Israel, South Korea, India, Indonesia, Turkey, Thailand, Malaysia, Oman, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 28%.
