In 2021, the Indian concentrated orange juice market was finally on the rise to reach $X after two years of decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 208%. The exports peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Bhutan (X tons) was the main destination for concentrated orange juice exports from India, accounting for a 63% share of total exports. Moreover, concentrated orange juice exports to Bhutan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Nepal (X tons), fourfold. The UK (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 14% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to Bhutan was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Nepal (+58.6% per year) and the UK (+50.3% per year).

In value terms, Bhutan ($X) remains the key foreign market for concentrated orange juice exports from India, comprising 61% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Nepal ($X), with a 21% share of total exports. It was followed by the UK, with a 12% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Bhutan amounted to +16.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Nepal (+47.6% per year) and the UK (+30.4% per year).

The average concentrated orange juice export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, falling by -39.6% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 an increase of 74%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Concentrated Orange Juice Imports

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of concentrated orange juice, when their volume increased by 90% to X tons. In general, imports continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 93% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2018; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.

In value terms, concentrated orange juice imports soared to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a modest increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Imports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Brazil (X tons), the United States (X tons) and Israel (X tons) were the main suppliers of concentrated orange juice imports to India, together accounting for 77% of total imports. Egypt, Spain, Belgium and South Africa lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 22%.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Belgium (with a CAGR of +39.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
