Exports from Pakistan

In 2021, overseas shipments of concentrated orange juice increased by 18% to X tons, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. In general, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when exports increased by 31%. The exports peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, concentrated orange juice exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

The Netherlands (X tons) was the main destination for concentrated orange juice exports from Pakistan, accounting for a 34% share of total exports. Moreover, concentrated orange juice exports to the Netherlands exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the United States (X tons), twofold. The UK (X tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 7.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume to the Netherlands stood at +18.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: the United States (+12.4% per year) and the UK (+1.1% per year).

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the key foreign market for concentrated orange juice exports from Pakistan, comprising 45% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Spain ($X), with an 8.8% share of total exports. It was followed by the United States, with a 5.9% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to the Netherlands amounted to +11.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Spain (+36.9% per year) and the United States (+9.2% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The average concentrated orange juice export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 8.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 an increase of 53%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Thailand ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to China (+10.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Pakistan

In 2021, overseas purchases of concentrated orange juice decreased by -26.9% to X tons, falling for the seventh year in a row after three years of growth. Overall, imports faced a sharp curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 48% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, concentrated orange juice imports dropped significantly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports saw a sharp shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 61% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

Imports by Country

Malaysia (X tons), Brazil (X tons) and the United Arab Emirates (X tons) were the main suppliers of concentrated orange juice imports to Pakistan, together comprising 85% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Brazil (with a CAGR of -0.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced a decline.

In value terms, the Netherlands ($X), Brazil ($X) and Malaysia ($X) appeared to be the largest concentrated orange juice suppliers to Pakistan, together accounting for 81% of total imports.

In terms of the main suppliers, the Netherlands, with a CAGR of +6.1%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the average concentrated orange juice import price amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -1.5% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the average import price increased by 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2020, and then fell modestly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($X per ton), while the price for Iran ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
