Mandarins Price in Portugal (CIF) - 2023

In July 2023, the average mandarins import price amounted to $1,335 per ton, waning by -3.9% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated a pronounced increase from July 2022 to July 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.3% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2023 figures, mandarins import price increased by +7.7% against May 2023 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in September 2022 when the average import price increased by 39% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $1,569 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to July 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Spain ($1,563 per ton), while the price for Poland ($1,024 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Mandarins Price in Portugal (FOB) - 2023

The average mandarins export price stood at $1,469 per ton in July 2023, shrinking by -16.7% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2023 when the average export price increased by 33% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $1,763 per ton in June 2023, and then shrank rapidly in the following month.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major export markets. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Cabo Verde ($1,781 per ton), while the average price for exports to Poland ($1,292 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+0.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Mandarins Imports in Portugal

After three years of growth, purchases abroad of fruit, edible decreased by -15.5% to 13K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +6.0% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 24% against the previous year.

In value terms, mandarins imports dropped remarkably to $15M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 27%.

In 2022, shipments abroad of fruit, edible decreased by -9.1% to 4.6K tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 14%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 5.3K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, mandarins exports fell to $6.4M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed in certain years. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 26%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $7.1M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
