Which Country Exports the Most Grapefruits in the World?

Global grapefruit exports amounted to 1,044 thousand tonnes in 2015, declining by -8.4% against the previous year level. Overall, the global grapefruit exports indicated a pronounced decline from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total export volume decreased at an average annual rate of -2.1% over the last eight years.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2009, when the output figure increased by +12% from the previous year level. In that year, the global grapefruit exports attained its maximum volume of 1,275 thousand tonnes. From 2010 to 2015, the total grapefruit exports growth failed to regain its strength.

In value terms, global exports amounted to $737 million in 2015. Overall, the value of global exports decreased substantially from 2007 to 2015, curtailing at an average annual rate of -1.5%. This trend pattern, however, remained consistant, with only minor fluctuations throughout the analyzed period.

Grapefruit Imports By Country

The countries with the highest levels of the grapefruit exports in 2015 were South Africa (161 thousand tonnes), Turkey (154 thousand tonnes), China (152 thousand tonnes), together accounting for 45% of total exports.

From 2007 to 2015, the most notable growth rates of grapefruit exports among the main exporting countries was attained by China (+7.9% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, China (155 million USD), the United States (122 million USD) and the Netherlands (98 million USD) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2015, together accounting for 51% of total exports.

China (+15.6% per year) had the highest growth rates of grapefruit exports among the main exporting countries over the last eight years, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
