Cassava Price in Spain (CIF) - 2023

The average cassava import price stood at $1,567 per ton in June 2023, increasing by 20% against the previous month. Overall, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $1,619 per ton in April 2023; afterwards, it flattened through to June 2023.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was France ($1,697 per ton), while the price for the Netherlands ($1,548 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by France (+1.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Cassava Price in Spain (FOB) - 2023

In June 2023, the average cassava export price amounted to $1,819 per ton, reducing by -1.6% against the previous month. Overall, export price indicated a resilient increase from June 2022 to June 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +5.1% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, cassava export price increased by +14.1% against February 2023 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in August 2022 an increase of 45% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,940 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to June 2023, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Italy ($1,942 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($1,122 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to France (+9.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Cassava Imports in Spain

In 2022, purchases abroad of cassava decreased by -32.6% to 8.7K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, imports continue to indicate a abrupt contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 34%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 18K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, cassava imports declined significantly to $11M in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a abrupt decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $17M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Cassava Exports in Spain

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of cassava, when their volume decreased by -48.3% to 2.1K tons. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a tangible increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 118% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 4.1K tons, and then declined sharply in the following year.

In value terms, cassava exports fell markedly to $3M in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a buoyant expansion from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +27.5% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 73%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $4.1M, and then declined notably in the following year.
