Which Country Exports the Most Cassava in the World?

Global cassava exports amounted to 7,990 thousand tonnes in 2015, coming up by +5.1% against the previous year level. Overall, the global cassava exports indicated a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last eight years.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2009, when the output figure increased by +48% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global cassava exports reached its maximum volume in 2015, and is likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, global exports amounted to $2,059 million in 2015. Overall, the value of global exports increased tangibly from 2007 to 2015, expanding at an average annual rate of +10.9%. This trend pattern, however, fluctuated wildly throughout the analyzed period.

Cassava Imports By Country

The country with the largest volume of the cassava exports in absolute volumes was Thailand (7,299 thousand tonnes), accounting for 91% of global exports. It was followed by Viet Nam (433 thousand tonnes), with a share of 5% of global exports. Moreover, cassava exports in Thailand exceeded the figures recorded by the world's second largest exporter, Viet Nam, more than tenfold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Cambodia with a share of 1%.

From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of cassava exports in Thailand stood at +6.1%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual growth rates: Viet Nam (+6.4% per year) and Cambodia (+59.8% per year).

In value terms, the country with the largest volume of exports of cassava in absolute volumes was Thailand (1,539 million USD), making up 75% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Viet Nam (399 million USD), with a share of 19% of global exports. Moreover, cassava exports in Thailand exceeded the figures recorded by the world's second largest importer, Viet Nam (399 million USD), fourfold. It was followed by Costa Rica with a share of 3%.

From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of cassava exports in Thailand was at +13.5%. The remaining exporting countries experienced the following average annual growth rates: Viet Nam (+9.8% per year) and Costa Rica (+7.1% per year).
