Thailand dominates in the global cassava trade. In 2014, Thailand exported 6,800 thousand tonnes of сassava totaling 1,523 million USD, 16% over the previous year. Its primary trading partner on the global cassava market was China, where it supplied essentially all (99.6%) of its total сassava exports in value terms, accounting for 72% of China's total imports.

From 2007 to 2014, Thailand was a net exporter of сassava. Over this period, exports consistently exceeded imports in value terms. However, in physical terms, the difference was less pronounced.

Indonesia and the Netherlands were among the other main global suppliers of сassava in 2014. However, the fastest growing exporters from 2007 to 2014 were Italy (+72% per year) and India (+31% per year).

Thailand's top 5 trading partners in 2014 were the aforementioned China, as well as Japan, New Zealand, Australia and the U.S., with a combined 99.9% share of Thailand's сassava exports. The share of China surged (+37 percentage points), while the share of Japan dropped slightly (-1 percentage points).
