Tea Price in Norway (CIF) - 2023

The average tea import price stood at $20,379 per ton in September 2023, with a decrease of -2.2% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.8%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2023 when the average import price increased by 39% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $22,414 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to September 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was Poland ($26,996 per ton), while the price for Pakistan ($5,330 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Tea Price in Norway (FOB) - 2022

The average tea export price stood at $12,084 per ton in 2022, which is down by -18.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a mild shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2015 an increase of 16%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $16,576 per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Finland ($40,934 per ton), while the average price for exports to Iceland ($500 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Portugal (+273.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Tea Imports in Norway

In 2022, purchases abroad of tea decreased by -11.6% to 914 tons, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. In general, imports showed a noticeable decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 13% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 1.1K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, tea imports rose rapidly to $17M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.7% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Tea Exports in Norway

In 2022, overseas shipments of tea were finally on the rise to reach 14 tons after two years of decline. Overall, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, tea exports shrank to $174K in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 2.3%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $196K. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
