Which Countries Import the Most Tea?

The volume of total imports on the global tea market in 2015 stood at 1,684 thousand tonnes. In value terms, imports of tea decreased to 6,328 million USD in 2015, which was 1,112 million USD (15%) less than the year before.

In 2015, according to market research conducted by IndexBox, Russia (173 thousand tonnes), Pakistan (165 thousand tonnes), the UK (135 thousand tonnes) and the U.S. (130 thousand tonnes) were the main destinations of tea imports, together making up 36% of total imports.

From 2008 to 2015, Pakistan had the highest growth rates of imports, with a CAGR of +6.9%. It was followed by the U.S. (+1.4%). The UK showed negative dynamics dropping by -2.2% over the last five years.

Pakistan significantly strengthened its position in the global import structure from 6% in 2008 to 10% in 2015, while Russia and the UK reduced their shares. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
