The average export price for melons (including watermelons) and papaws (papayas); freshes stood at $1,172 per ton in September 2023, increasing by 14% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in October 2022 an increase of 22% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs in September 2023.
Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In September 2023, the countries with the highest prices were Kuwait ($1,327 per ton) and Maldives ($1,309 per ton), while the average price for exports to Seychelles ($1,114 per ton) and Mauritius ($1,147 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Hungary (+4.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
