Melon Market Size in Egypt

From 2013 to 2018, the growth of melon exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, melon exports totaled $X in 2018. Over the period under review, melon exports, however, continue to indicate a drastic curtailment. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2012 with an increase of X% y-o-y. In that year, melon exports attained their peak of $X. From 2013 to 2018, the growth of melon exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Kuwait (X tonnes), Saudi Arabia (X tonnes) and Hungary (X tonnes) were the main destinations of melon exports from Egypt, with a combined X% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Italy, Qatar, Syrian Arab Republic, Lebanon, the United Arab Emirates, France, Bahrain, Iraq and Mauritius, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of exports, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Lebanon, while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Kuwait ($X) remains the key foreign market for melon exports from Egypt, comprising X% of total melon exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Saudi Arabia ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Italy, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2018, the average annual growth rate of value to Kuwait stood at +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Saudi Arabia (+X% per year) and Italy (-X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2018, the average melon export price amounted to $X per tonne, increasing by X% against the previous year. Overall, the melon export price, however, continues to indicate an abrupt contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2009 an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, the average export prices for melons attained their maximum at $X per tonne in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2018, export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination; the country with the highest price was Kuwait ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to France ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2018, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Lebanon, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into Egypt

Melon imports into Egypt stood at X tonnes in 2018, jumping by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, melon imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2012 with an increase of X% year-to-year. In that year, melon imports attained their peak of X tonnes. From 2013 to 2018, the growth of melon imports remained at a lower figure.

Turkey (X tonnes), Brazil (X tonnes) and the U.S. (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of melon imports to Egypt, together comprising X% of total imports.
