Which Country Exports the Most Papayas in the World?

Global papaya exports amounted to 347 thousand tonnes in 2015, coming up by +8.3% against the previous year level. Overall, the global papaya exports indicated a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last eight years.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011, when the output figure increased by +18% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global papaya exports reached its maximum volume in 2015, and is likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, global exports amounted to $261 million in 2015. Overall, the value of global exports increased tangibly from 2007 to 2015, expanding at an average annual rate of +4.5%. This trend pattern, however, indicated relatively mild fluctuations throughout the analyzed period.

Papaya Imports By Country

The country with the largest volume of the papaya exports in absolute volumes was Mexico (146 thousand tonnes), accounting for 42% of global exports. It was followed by Brazil (40 thousand tonnes), with a share of 11% of global exports. Moreover, papaya exports in Mexico exceeded the figures recorded by the world's second largest exporter, Brazil, fourfold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Guatemala with a share of 11%.

From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of papaya exports in Mexico stood at +4.8%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual growth rates: Brazil (+2.7% per year) and Guatemala (+24.9% per year).

In value terms, Mexico (87 million USD), Brazil (44 million USD) and the United States (23 million USD) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2015, together accounting for 59% of total exports.

Guatemala (+38.7% per year) had the highest growth rates of papaya exports among the main exporting countries over the last eight years, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
