Price for Butter and Dairy Spreads in Italy (CIF) - 2023

The average butter and dairy spreads import price stood at $5,977 per ton in June 2023, growing by 17% against the previous month. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in July 2022 when the average import price increased by 17% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $7,111 per ton in November 2022; however, from December 2022 to June 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Denmark ($7,405 per ton), while the price for Croatia ($3,877 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Lithuania (+19.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Price for Butter and Dairy Spreads in Italy (FOB) - 2023

In July 2023, the average butter and dairy spreads export price amounted to $6,400 per ton, with an increase of 5.6% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in September 2022 when the average export price increased by 7.5% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $7,522 per ton in December 2022; however, from January 2023 to July 2023, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Belgium ($7,828 per ton), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic ($1,159 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+2.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports of Butter and Dairy Spreads in Italy

In 2022, the amount of butter and dairy spreads imported into Italy reached 36K tons, increasing by 2.7% on the year before. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2022 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, butter and dairy spreads imports skyrocketed to $229M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.6% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +79.4% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 35%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Over the period under review, total exports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 26% against the previous year.

In value terms, butter and dairy spreads exports shrank to $89M in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.6% over the last three-year period.
