Which Country Imports the Most Butter And Ghee in the World?

Global butter and ghee imports amounted to 1,760 thousand tonnes in 2015, descending by -4.2% against the previous year level. Overall, the global butter and ghee imports indicated a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last eight years.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2010, when the output figure increased by +9% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global butter and ghee imports attained its maximum volume of 1,836 thousand tonnes in 2014, falling back in the following year.

In value terms, global butter and ghee imports amounted to $6,435 million in 2015. Overall, the value of global butter and ghee imports increased robustly from 2007 to 2015, expanding at an average annual rate of +2.5%. This trend pattern, however, indicated relatively mild fluctuations throughout the analyzed period.

Butter And Ghee Imports By Country

The countries with the highest levels of the butter and ghee imports in 2015 were France (198 thousand tonnes), Germany (152 thousand tonnes), Belgium (147 thousand tonnes), together accounting for 28% of total imports.

From 2007 to 2015, the most notable growth rates of butter and ghee imports among the main importing countries was attained by the Netherlands (+6.9% per year), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, France (690 million USD), Germany (545 million USD) and Belgium (524 million USD) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2015, together accounting for 27% of total imports.

the Netherlands (+7.4% per year) had the highest growth rates of butter and ghee imports among the main importing countries over the last eight years, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
