Eggplant Price in Thailand (FOB) - 2022
The average eggplant export price stood at $664 per ton in 2022, with an increase of 42% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 an increase of 58% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $1,441 per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United Arab Emirates ($7,498 per ton), while the average price for exports to Lao People's Democratic Republic ($250 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Australia (+18.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the average eggplant import price amounted to $11,000 per ton, waning by -16.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a strong increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the average import price increased by 825% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $22,446 per ton. From 2017 to 2022, the average import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Japan ($11,612 per ton), while the price for China stood at $5,222 per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Japan (+8.4%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Eggplant Exports in Thailand
In 2022, shipments abroad of eggplants (aubergines) decreased by -0.9% to 382 tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, posted a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 219%.
In value terms, eggplant exports skyrocketed to $254K in 2022. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 98% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Eggplant Imports in Thailand
In 2022, overseas purchases of eggplants (aubergines) were finally on the rise to reach 94 kg for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a dramatic decrease.
