Date Price in the Netherlands (FOB) - 2023
In June 2023, the average date export price amounted to $5,272 per ton, declining by -7.2% against the previous month. Over the last twelve months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.0%. The growth pace was the most rapid in December 2022 when the average export price increased by 14% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $5,778 per ton in March 2023; however, from April 2023 to June 2023, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Poland ($8,151 per ton), while the average price for exports to Greece ($3,131 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Greece (+6.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Date Price in the Netherlands (CIF) - 2023
The average date import price stood at $4,446 per ton in June 2023, dropping by -2.7% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated moderate growth from June 2022 to June 2023: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.7% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on June 2023 figures, date import price decreased by -17.3% against April 2023 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in September 2022 an increase of 45% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $5,379 per ton in April 2023; however, from May 2023 to June 2023, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Israel ($6,770 per ton), while the price for Saudi Arabia ($703 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Date Exports in the Netherlands
For the fourth consecutive year, the Netherlands recorded growth in shipments abroad of dates, which increased by 8.2% to 14K tons in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a significant increase from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +21.0% over the last three-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +77.3% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 49% against the previous year. The exports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, date exports shrank to $68M in 2022. In general, total exports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +17.5% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +62.1% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 57% against the previous year.

Date Imports in the Netherlands
In 2022, supplies from abroad of dates decreased by -13.5% to 17K tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Overall, total imports indicated prominent growth from 2019 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +11.1% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 49%.
In value terms, date imports reduced modestly to $68M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +12.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 42% against the previous year.
