Butter and Ghee Price in the Netherlands (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average butter and ghee export price amounted to $6,534 per ton, with an increase of 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, export price indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, butter and ghee export price increased by +53.6% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the average export price increased by 48%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($9,460 per ton), while the average price for exports to Germany ($6,125 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+7.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Butter and Ghee Price in the Netherlands (CIF) - 2022

The average butter and ghee import price stood at $5,184 per ton in 2022, growing by 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import price indicated a tangible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, butter and ghee import price increased by +35.8% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 50%. The import price peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the countries with the highest prices were New Zealand ($6,393 per ton) and Ireland ($6,242 per ton), while the price for Germany ($4,591 per ton) and Poland ($4,733 per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by New Zealand (+6.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Butter and Ghee Exports in the Netherlands

After three years of growth, overseas shipments of butter and ghee decreased by -3.3% to 330K tons in 2022. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.0% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 6.8%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 341K tons, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, butter and ghee exports surged to $2.2B in 2022. In general, total exports indicated strong growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +12.3% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +58.7% against 2020 indices. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
