Netherlands: Ghee Market Overview 2021

Ghee Market Size in the Netherlands

For the third consecutive year, the Dutch ghee market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by X% to $X in 2020. In general, consumption, however, recorded a deep contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the market value increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Ghee Production in the Netherlands

In value terms, ghee production fell to $X in 2020 estimated in export prices. The total output value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the period from 2007 to 2020; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the production volume increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, production remained at a lower figure.

Exports from the Netherlands

For the third consecutive year, the Netherlands recorded decline in shipments abroad of ghee, which decreased by -X% to X tonnes in 2020. In general, exports, however, posted a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of X% against the previous year. As a result, exports attained the peak of X tonnes. from 2016 to 2020, the growth exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, ghee exports shrank rapidly to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. Exports peaked at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Germany (X tonnes), France (X tonnes) and the UK (X tonnes) were the main destinations of ghee exports from the Netherlands, with a combined X% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Italy, Belgium, Poland, Sweden, the Philippines, Ireland, Denmark and Austria, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Ireland (+X% per year), while exports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), France ($X) and the UK ($X) were the largest markets for ghee exported from the Netherlands worldwide, together comprising X% of total exports. Italy, Belgium, Poland, the Philippines, Sweden, Ireland, Austria and Denmark lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X (+X% per year) saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2020, the average ghee export price amounted to $X per tonne, shrinking by -X% against the previous year. In general, export price indicated mild growth from 2007 to 2020: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, ghee export price decreased by -X% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by X% y-o-y. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably for the major external markets. In 2020, the countries with the highest prices were the Philippines ($X per tonne) and Sweden ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Denmark ($X per tonne) and Austria ($X per tonne) were amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the UK, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Netherlands

In 2020, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of ghee, when their volume decreased by -X% to X tonnes. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2012 when imports increased by X% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tonnes in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, ghee imports reduced to $X in 2020. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.

Imports by Country

Belgium (X tonnes), Germany (X tonnes) and the UK (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of ghee imports to the Netherlands, with a combined X% share of total imports. These countries were followed by France, Poland, Greece and Ireland, which together accounted for a further X 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Greece (+X% per year), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
