Sesame Oil Price in the United States (CIF) - 2023
The average sesame oil import price stood at $6,317 per ton in September 2023, increasing by 13% against the previous month. Over the period from September 2022 to September 2023, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.3%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2023, the country with the highest price was South Korea ($10,512 per ton), while the price for India ($4,072 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Taiwan (Chinese) (+2.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sesame Oil Price in the United States (FOB) - 2023
The average sesame oil export price stood at $3,282 per ton in September 2023, with a decrease of -11.2% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2023 an increase of 28% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $4,269 per ton. From June 2023 to September 2023, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In September 2023, the highest price was recorded for prices to the Netherlands ($3,690 per ton) and Germany ($3,690 per ton), while the average price for exports to the UK ($2,690 per ton) and Belize ($2,690 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From September 2022 to September 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the Netherlands (+1.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Sesame Oil Imports in the United States
In 2022, approx. 25K tons of sesame oil were imported into the United States; with an increase of 8.7% against the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +9.8% from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 15%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.
