Maize Oil Market Size in the U.S.

For the eighth consecutive year, the U.S. maize oil market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by X% to $X in 2020. Overall, consumption showed a strong increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Maize oil consumption peaked in 2020 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Maize Oil Production in the U.S.

In value terms, maize oil production rose markedly to $X in 2020. in general, the total production indicated a pronounced expansion from 2007 to 2020: its value increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, production increased by +X% against 2014 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, production hit record highs in 2020 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Exports from the U.S.

In 2020, overseas shipments of maize oil decreased by -X% to X tonnes, falling for the third year in a row after three years of growth. in general, exports saw a perceptible contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2012 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. As a result, exports reached the peak of X tonnes. from 2013 to 2020, the growth exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, maize oil exports declined rapidly to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a perceptible reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Saudi Arabia (X tonnes), Egypt (X tonnes) and Kuwait (X tonnes) were the main destinations of maize oil exports from the U.S., with a combined X% share of total exports.

From 2007 to 2020, the biggest increases were in Kuwait, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest markets for maize oil exported from the U.S. were Saudi Arabia ($X), Egypt ($X) and Kuwait ($X), together accounting for X% of total exports.

Kuwait saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.

In 2020, the average maize oil export price amounted to $X per tonne, approximately mirroring the previous year. in general, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2008 when the average export price increased by X% year-to-year. As a result, export price attained the peak level of $X per tonne. from 2009 to 2020, the growth in terms of the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. in 2020, the country with the highest price was Canada ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Spain ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the U.S.

In 2020, imports of maize oil into the U.S. fell notably to X tonnes, declining by -X% on the previous year's figure. Overall, imports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of X% year-to-year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tonnes. from 2017 to 2020, the growth imports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, maize oil imports declined to $X in 2020. in general, imports saw a perceptible decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Imports peaked at $X in 2008; however, from 2009 to 2020, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2020, Canada (X tonnes) was the main supplier of maize oil to the U.S., with a X% share of total imports. Moreover, maize oil imports from Canada exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Mexico (X tonnes), more than tenfold.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume from Canada was relatively modest. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Mexico (+X% per year) and Argentina (-X% per year).
