Global sesame oil imports amounted to 58 thousand tonnes in 2015, approximately equating the previous year level.Overall, the global sesame oil imports indicated a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last eight years.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2011, when the output figure increased by +19% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global sesame oil imports reached its maximum volume in 2015, and is likely to continue its growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, global sesame oil imports amounted to $229 million in 2015. Overall, the value of global sesame oil imports increased robustly from 2007 to 2015, expanding at an average annual rate of +9.4%. This trend pattern, however, indicated relatively mild fluctuations throughout the analyzed period.

Sesame Oil Imports By Country

The country with the largest volume of the sesame oil imports in absolute volumes was the United States (16 thousand tonnes), accounting for 27% of global imports. It was followed by the United Kingdom (3 thousand tonnes), with a share of 6% of global imports. Moreover, sesame oil imports in the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the world's second largest importer, the United Kingdom (3 thousand tonnes), fivefold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Mexico with a share of 5%.

From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of sesame oil imports in the United States stood at +3.1%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual growth rates: the United Kingdom (+1.8% per year) and Mexico (+11.4% per year).

In value terms, the country with the largest volume of imports of sesame oil in absolute volumes was the United States (84 million USD), making up 37% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by the United Kingdom (14 million USD), with a share of 6% of global imports. Moreover, sesame oil imports in the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the world's second largest importer, the United Kingdom (14 million USD), sixfold. It was followed by Canada with a share of 5%.

From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of sesame oil imports in the United States was at +9.9%. The remaining importing countries experienced the following average annual growth rates: the United Kingdom (+9.1% per year) and Canada (+8.1% per year).
