U.S. Linseed Oil Price Up 4.8% to $4.5K per Ton
U.S. Linseed Oil Import Price per Ton in September 2022
In September 2022, the linseed oil price per ton stood at $4.5K (CIF, US), rising by 4.8% against the previous month. Overall, import price indicated noticeable growth from January 2022 to September 2022: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.1% over the last eight-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, linseed oil import price increased by +4.9% against June 2022 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in April 2022 when the average import price increased by 86% against the previous month. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $7.7K per ton. From May 2022 to September 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Canada ($4.7K per ton), while the price for Belgium ($2.4K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (+8.7%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
U.S. Linseed Oil Import Prices by Type
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplied products. In September 2022, the product with the highest price was vegetable oils; linseed oil and its fractions, other than crude, whether or not refined, but not chemically modified ($4.5K per ton), while the price for vegetable oils; linseed oil and its fractions, crude, not chemically modified stood at $3.0K per ton.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by vegetable oils; linseed oil and its fractions, other than crude, whether or not refined, but not chemically modified (+4.5%).
U.S. Linseed Oil Imports
In September 2022, linseed oil imports into the United States surged to 1.3K tons, rising by 248% on August 2022. In general, imports saw buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2022 with an increase of 385% month-to-month. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in September 2022.
In value terms, linseed oil imports skyrocketed to $5.9M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when imports increased by 356% against the previous month. Imports peaked in September 2022.
U.S. Linseed Oil Imports by Type
In September 2022, vegetable oils; linseed oil and its fractions, other than crude, whether or not refined, but not chemically modified (1.3K tons) was the main type of linseed oil supplied to the United States, with a 96% share of total imports. Moreover, vegetable oils; linseed oil and its fractions, other than crude, whether or not refined, but not chemically modified exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, vegetable oils; linseed oil and its fractions, crude, not chemically modified (49 tons), more than tenfold.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of import of vegetable oils; linseed oil and its fractions, other than crude, whether or not refined, but not chemically modified totaled +15.2%.
In value terms, vegetable oils; linseed oil and its fractions, other than crude, whether or not refined, but not chemically modified ($5.8M) constituted the largest type of linseed oil supplied to the United States, comprising 97% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by vegetable oils; linseed oil and its fractions, crude, not chemically modified ($149K), with a 2.5% share of total imports.
U.S. Linseed Oil Imports by Country
In September 2022, Turkey (1K tons) constituted the largest linseed oil supplier to the United States, with a 77% share of total imports. Moreover, linseed oil imports from Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (158 tons), sixfold. Canada (115 tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with an 8.7% share.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from Turkey stood at +18.7%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: China (+10.0% per month) and Canada (+5.2% per month).
In value terms, Turkey ($4.6M) constituted the largest supplier of linseed oil to the United States, comprising 78% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by China ($647K), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Canada, with a 9.2% share.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from Turkey amounted to +29.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: China (+13.2% per month) and Canada (+3.6% per month).
