Which Country Exports the Most Strawberries in the World?

Global strawberry exports amounted to 878 thousand tonnes in 2015, descending by -2.6% against the previous year level. Overall, the global strawberry exports indicated a pronounced growth from 2007 to 2015. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% over the last eight years.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2008, when the output figure increased by +14% from the previous year level. Over the period under review, the global strawberry exports attained its maximum volume of 901 thousand tonnes in 2014, falling back in the following year.

In value terms, global exports amounted to $2,192 million in 2015. Overall, the value of global exports increased tangibly from 2007 to 2015, expanding at an average annual rate of +4.5%. This trend pattern, however, indicated relatively mild fluctuations throughout the analyzed period.

Strawberry Imports By Country

The country with the largest volume of the strawberry exports in absolute volumes was Spain (283 thousand tonnes), accounting for 32% of global exports. It was followed by the United States (134 thousand tonnes), with a share of 15% of global exports. Moreover, strawberry exports in Spain exceeded the figures recorded by the world's second largest exporter, the United States, twofold. The third position in this ranking was occupied by Mexico with a share of 11%.

From 2007 to 2015, an average annual growth rate of strawberry exports in Spain stood at +5.4%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual growth rates: the United States (-1.1% per year) and Mexico (+4.1% per year).

In value terms, Spain (608 million USD), the United States (436 million USD) and the Netherlands (250 million USD) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2015, together accounting for 59% of total exports.

Egypt (+25.5% per year) had the highest growth rates of strawberry exports among the main exporting countries over the last eight years, while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
