Strawberry Market Size in Singapore

In 2020, the Singaporean strawberry market decreased by -X% to $X for the first time since 2017, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, consumption, however, enjoyed a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2012 with an increase of X% against the previous year. Strawberry consumption peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2020, consumption failed to regain the momentum.

Exports from Singapore

For the fourth year in a row, Singapore recorded decline in shipments abroad of strawberries, which decreased by -X% to X tonnes in 2020. Overall, exports saw a dramatic downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2012 when exports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, exports attained the peak figure at X tonnes in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, strawberry exports fell to $X in 2020. In general, exports showed a significant contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by X% against the previous year. Over the period under review, exports hit record highs at $X in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

Exports by Country

Malaysia (X tonnes) was the main destination for strawberry exports from Singapore, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, strawberry exports to Malaysia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Brunei Darussalam (X kg), sixfold. Cambodia (X kg) ranked third in terms of total exports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume to Malaysia totaled -X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Brunei Darussalam (-X% per year) and Cambodia (-X% per year).

In value terms, Malaysia ($X) remains the key foreign market for strawberry exports from Singapore, comprising X% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Brunei Darussalam ($X), with a X% share of total exports. It was followed by Cambodia, with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Malaysia amounted to -X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Brunei Darussalam (-X% per year) and Cambodia (-X% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2020, the average strawberry export price amounted to $X per tonne, picking up by X% against the previous year. In general, the export price saw a slight expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of X% year-to-year. The export price peaked at $X per tonne in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2020, export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In 2020, the countries with the highest prices were Indonesia ($X per tonne) and Brunei Darussalam ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Cambodia ($X per tonne) and Malaysia ($X per tonne) were amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

Imports into Singapore

Strawberry imports into Singapore shrank to X tonnes in 2020, dropping by -X% against the previous year. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2012 with an increase of X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tonnes in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2020, imports failed to regain the momentum.

In value terms, strawberry imports reached $X in 2020. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a resilient increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2012 when imports increased by X% y-o-y. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2020, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

South Korea (X tonnes), Australia (X tonnes) and the U.S. (X tonnes) were the main suppliers of strawberry imports to Singapore, together comprising X% of total imports. New Zealand, Japan, Hong Kong SAR and Egypt lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further X 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Hong Kong SAR (+X% per year), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, South Korea ($X) constituted the largest supplier of strawberry to Singapore, comprising X% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by Australia ($X), with a X% share of total imports. It was followed by the U.S., with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from South Korea totaled +X%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Australia (+X% per year) and the U.S. (+X% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The average strawberry import price stood at $X per tonne in 2020, rising by X% against the previous year. In general, import price indicated a buoyant increase from 2007 to 2020: its price increased at an average annual rate of +X% over the last thirteen-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, strawberry import price increased by +X% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2012 when the average import price increased by X% y-o-y. The import price peaked in 2020 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Japan ($X per tonne), while the price for Hong Kong SAR ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by New Zealand, while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
