Railway Passenger Coach Exports By Country

In 2016, China (15K tonnes), distantly followed by the U.S. (8.4K tonnes), Germany (8.3K tonnes), Japan (5K tonnes), Indonesia (4.8K tonnes), Spain (3.6K tonnes), and Austria (3.1K tonnes) were the key exporters of railway passenger coach, together creating 73% of total exports. Norway (2.5K tonnes), South Korea (2.5K tonnes), the Netherlands (2.2K tonnes), Belarus (1.3K tonnes), and Switzerland (1.2K tonnes) followed a long way behind this figure.

From 2007 to 2016, the most notable growth rate of railway passenger coach exports, among the main exporting countries, was attained by the Netherlands (+109.4% per year), while the other global leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, Germany ($445M) emerged as the largest railway passenger coach supplier in the world, making up 33% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was occupied by China ($192M), with the share of 14% of global exports. It was followed by Spain, with the share of 11%.

From 2007 to 2016, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value of railway passenger coach exports in Germany stood at +4.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: China (+4.7% per year) and Spain (-3.9% per year).

Railway Passenger Coach Export Prices By Country

In 2016, the average export price for railway passenger coach amounted to $20 per kg, surging by 50% against the previous year. Overall, railway passenger coach export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016, when export increased by 50% against the previous year level. Global railway passenger coach export peaked of $26 per kg in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2016, it stood at a somewhat lower level.
