According to market research conducted by IndexBox, in 2015, the global hazelnut market grew to X thousand tonnes. From 2007 to 2015, the global consumption of hazelnuts showed a mixed dynamic, from 2007 to 2015. The market's trend pattern depends to a large extent on the yield figures in the key producer-countries. In value terms, this reached X million USD in 2015.
The countries with the highest consumption were Turkey (X%), Italy (X%), Germany (X%); together they accounted for nearly X% of global consumption. They were followed by France, Belgium, Canada, Switzerland, China, Russia and Australia.
Amongst the leading consuming countries, high of per capita consumption levels were recorded in Turkey (X kg/person), Italy (X kg/person), Belgium (X kg/person), Switzerland (X kg/person) and Germany (X kg/person), which was significantly higher than the world average of X kg/year. It should be noted that not all the hazelnuts volume produced is consumed directly as a foodsource: the product is increasingly being used as a raw material in the manufacture of food products, such as nut paste and various confectionary items.
In 2015, the volume of global exports totaled X thousand tonnes, fluctuating over the last few years. A gradual increase over the period from 2009 to 2013 was followed by a decline in 2014-2015. Turkey also dominates the global hazelnuts trade with a X% share of total exports in 2015. Besides Turkey, the largest global suppliers in 2015 were Georgia (X%), Italy (X%) and Azerbaijan (X%).
The volume of global imports totaled X thousand tonnes in 2015. The imports dynamic was generally in line with exports: these trade flows globally complement each other. Following the high trade intensity, the share of imports in global demand accounted for about X%. In 2015, Germany (X thousand tonnes), Italy (X thousand tonnes) and France (X thousand tonnes) were the leading destinations of hazelnuts imports, together making up X% of global imports in physical terms.
