The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 1.9% against the previous year. As a result, the yield attained the peak level of X tons per ha; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021. Despite the increased use of modern agricultural techniques and methods, future yield figures may still be impacted by adverse weather conditions.
The hazelnut harvested area in China fell to X ha in 2021, remaining constant against 2020. Over the period under review, the harvested area, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 when the harvested area increased by 4.3% against the previous year. As a result, the harvested area reached the peak level of X ha. From 2016 to 2021, the growth of the hazelnut harvested area remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports from China
In 2021, the amount of hazelnuts exported from China soared to X tons, rising by 731% compared with 2020 figures. Over the period under review, exports saw resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 1,029% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, hazelnut exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a prominent expansion. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
South Korea (X tons), Hong Kong SAR (X tons) and the United States (X tons) were the main destinations of hazelnut exports from China, with a combined 98% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by South Korea (with a CAGR of +101.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline.
In value terms, Hong Kong SAR ($X), South Korea ($X) and the United States ($X) constituted the largest markets for hazelnut exported from China worldwide, with a combined 97% share of total exports.
South Korea, with a CAGR of +61.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced a decline.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the average hazelnut export price amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 6.1% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 an increase of 282% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to South Korea ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+61.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into China
In 2021, imports of hazelnuts into China surged to X tons, rising by 56% against 2020 figures. Overall, imports enjoyed a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when imports increased by 495%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, hazelnut imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 308%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, the United States (X tons) was the main supplier of hazelnut to China, accounting for a 96% share of total imports. Moreover, hazelnut imports from the United States exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Georgia (X tons), more than tenfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from the United States amounted to +51.6%.
In value terms, the United States ($X) constituted the largest supplier of hazelnut to China, comprising 96% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Georgia ($X), with a 3.5% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from the United States amounted to +52.0%.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average hazelnut import price amounted to $X per ton, growing by 14% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 29% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Georgia ($X per ton), while the price for the United States stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+0.2%).
