The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 36% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the global exports attained the maximum at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

The Netherlands prevails in exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 95% of total exports in 2021. Hungary (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.
Exports from the Netherlands increased at an average annual rate of +42.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Hungary (+80.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hungary emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the world, with a CAGR of +80.4% from 2012-2021. The Netherlands (+46 p.p.) and Hungary (+2.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the Netherlands ($X) remains the largest way-type unit head supplier worldwide, comprising 16% of global exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Hungary ($X), with a 0.5% share of global exports.
In the Netherlands, way-type unit head exports expanded at an average annual rate of +24.1% over the period from 2012-2021.
Export Prices by Country
The average way-type unit head export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, reducing by -57.8% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a significant contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the average export price increased by 159%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Hungary ($X per ton), while the Netherlands amounted to $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the Netherlands (-12.7%).
Way-Type Unit Head Imports

After two years of decline, supplies from abroad of way-type unit heads for working metal increased by 78% to X tons in 2021. Overall, total imports indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, way-type unit head imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a abrupt decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 52%. Global imports peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
The Netherlands dominates imports structure, accounting for X tons, which was near 51% of total imports in 2021. Indonesia (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Belgium (X tons) and Hungary (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 19% share of total imports. Iran (X tons), Vietnam (X tons), the United States (X tons) and Italy (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to way-type unit head imports into the Netherlands stood at +15.4%. At the same time, Hungary (+72.8%), the United States (+20.1%), Vietnam (+15.6%), Belgium (+10.0%) and Italy (+7.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Hungary emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the world, with a CAGR of +72.8% from 2012-2021. Indonesia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Iran (-4.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. The Netherlands (+33 p.p.), Hungary (+5.8 p.p.), Belgium (+3 p.p.), Vietnam (+2.3 p.p.) and the United States (+2.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the global imports, while Iran saw its share reduced by -3.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, the United States ($X), the Netherlands ($X) and Vietnam ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 35% of global imports.
Among the main importing countries, the United States, with a CAGR of +25.5%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average way-type unit head import price amounted to $X per ton, waning by -35.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price showed a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 15% against the previous year. Global import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the United States ($X per ton), while Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the United States (+4.5%), while the other global leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
