Exports from Portugal

In 2021, the amount of way-type unit heads for working metal exported from Portugal skyrocketed to X tons, jumping by 50% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a sharp setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 1,410% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, way-type unit head exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, showed a dramatic decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 870%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Mozambique (X tons) was the main destination for way-type unit head exports from Portugal, with a 72% share of total exports. Moreover, way-type unit head exports to Mozambique exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Cabo Verde (X kg), fourfold. Sweden (X kg) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 5.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume to Mozambique totaled -11.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Cabo Verde (+60.3% per year) and Sweden (0.0% per year).

In 2021, the amount of way-type unit heads for working metal imported into Portugal skyrocketed to X tons, growing by 317% on 2020 figures. In general, imports saw resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 553%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, way-type unit head imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 392% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, Japan (X tons) constituted the largest way-type unit head supplier to Portugal, accounting for a 61% share of total imports.
