After five years of growth, shipments abroad of granules, chippings and powder of marble decreased by -11.2% to X tons in 2021. Overall, exports, however, saw a remarkable increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 68% against the previous year. The exports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then dropped in the following year.
In value terms, marble granules and powder exports declined modestly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +8.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -1.9% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 53% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Belarus (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons) and Ukraine (X tons) were the main destinations of marble granules and powder exports from Russia, with a combined 91% share of total exports. Finland and Latvia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 8.1%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Finland (with a CAGR of +168.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for marble granules and powder exported from Russia were Belarus ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Ukraine ($X), with a combined 93% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Latvia and Finland, which together accounted for a further 4.6%.
Finland, with a CAGR of +135.4%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average marble granules and powder export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 12% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, saw a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the average export price increased by 23%. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Latvia ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Finland ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Kazakhstan (-5.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
Imports of Granules, Chippings And Powder Of Marble
Imports into the Russian Federation
In 2021, supplies from abroad of granules, chippings and powder of marble decreased by -7.5% to X tons, falling for the second year in a row after three years of growth. Over the period under review, imports recorded a deep reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 55%. Imports peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, marble granules and powder imports expanded modestly to $X in 2021. In general, imports recorded a abrupt decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when imports increased by 100% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Turkey (X tons) was the main marble granules and powder supplier to Russia, with a 95% share of total imports. Moreover, marble granules and powder imports from Turkey exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Kazakhstan (X tons), more than tenfold.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of volume from Turkey amounted to -6.9%.
In value terms, Turkey ($X) constituted the largest supplier of granules, chippings and powder of marble to Russia, comprising 92% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 1.6% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Turkey amounted to -9.1%.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the average marble granules and powder import price amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 12% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, showed a perceptible curtailment. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 30% against the previous year. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Turkey ($X per ton), while the price for Kazakhstan stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Turkey (-2.2%).
