From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Sudan (with a CAGR of +60.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the largest way-type unit head importing markets in Africa were Egypt ($X), South Africa ($X) and Cote d'Ivoire ($X), together accounting for 42% of total imports. These countries were followed by Morocco, Ghana, Algeria, Kenya, Sudan, Cameroon, Tanzania, Angola and Mauritania, which together accounted for a further 31%.

Sudan, with a CAGR of +54.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 3.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a noticeable shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 an increase of 57% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Mauritania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kenya (+13.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
