Wheat plantations are large agricultural areas dedicated to the cultivation of wheat, a globally important cereal grain. Wheat is one of the most widely grown and consumed crops in the world, providing a staple food source for billions of people.
Wheat plantations typically involve the systematic cultivation of various wheat varieties, employing modern farming techniques to maximize yields and ensure efficient production. Before planting begins, the land is prepared by clearing it from weeds and previous crop residues, and often fertilizers are applied to improve soil fertility. Different tillage practices like plowing or minimum tillage may be employed depending on the specific conditions of the plantation.
The wheat seeds are then sown either by hand or using specialized machinery like seed drills, which ensure even distribution and proper seed depth. Adequate spacing between the seeds is essential to allow for healthy plant growth and development. Wheat is generally a cool-season crop, with plantations sited in areas with moderate temperature ranges for optimal growth.
Once the seeds are sown, the wheat plants undergo several stages of growth, including germination, tillering, stem elongation, and flowering. During this period, farmers closely monitor the plantation and take necessary measures to protect the crops from pests, diseases, and weeds. Herbicides, insecticides, and fungicides may be used judiciously to control infestations and ensure healthy crop growth.
The maturity of the wheat plants is determined by visual signs such as the color of the grains and the dryness of the stalks. Harvesting is typically done when the grains have reached their full size and hardness, usually around the time when the plants have turned golden-yellow. Modern combines or harvesters are used to mechanically cut and gather the mature wheat plants, which are then transported to threshing facilities.
At the threshing facilities, the harvested wheat is separated from the straw and chaff. The grains may undergo further cleaning and drying processes to remove foreign matter, and then they are stored in suitable silos or grain bins. These storage structures protect the wheat from adverse weather conditions and pests, ensuring it remains in good condition until it is ready for transport or further processing.
In conclusion, wheat plantations play a vital role in meeting global food demands. The systematic cultivation of wheat, combined with modern farming practices, helps to ensure high yields and quality grains. By maintaining optimal growth conditions and carefully managing potential threats, farmers strive to produce abundant and nutritious wheat crops that can contribute to food security worldwide.

In 2022, wheat price growth is forecast to slow down with sufficient global production and falling demand for feed grains in the U.S. and the EU. Global wheat output is set to remain at the 2021’s level of approx. 777M tons.
The average annual wheat price in the U.S. is forecast to drop by 2% y-o-y to $250 per ton in 2022, falling on reduced domestic consumption coupled with stable supply worldwide. The market balance will be buoyed by production gains in Argentina and the EU that will offset decreasing output in Brazil and Paraguay.
This year, harvests in the EU, the U.S., the UK, Argentina, Morocco and Ukraine are expected to increase, leading to a growth in wheat production. Even though global stockpiles of grains will remain high, there are boosted expectations for inflation due to forecasts of record demand and increased prices for other cereal grains. The rising global population and bioethanol production are key factors leading to this growth in demand for wheat. Another driving factor is the emerging trend in the EU to use more wheat in animal feed rather than barley.
Global wheat production will reach 758.3 million tons in 2020, showing a slight decrease of 0.5 percent over the previous year's highs and still at a fairly high level.
Global wheat consumption amounted to X thousand tons in 2015, remaining constant against the previous year level.
In 2015, the countries with the highest levels of production were China (X thousand tons), India (X thousand tons), Russia (X thousand tons), together accounting for X% of total output.
The U.S. dominates in the global wheat trade. In 2014, the U.S. exported X thousand tons of wheat totaling X million USD, X% under the previous year. Its primary trading partner was Japan, where it supplied X% of its total wheat exports in
