Tea Price in the Netherlands (CIF) - 2023

In July 2023, the average tea import price amounted to $7,636 per ton, increasing by 1.9% against the previous month. Over the last twelve-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.0%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in August 2022 an increase of 16% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $8,600 per ton in May 2023; however, from June 2023 to July 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In July 2023, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($16,224 per ton), while the price for Iran ($1,738 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From July 2022 to July 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belgium (+14.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Tea Price in the Netherlands (FOB) - 2022

In 2022, the average tea export price amounted to $7,845 per ton, increasing by 2.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a remarkable increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 55%. The export price peaked at $7,967 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($16,235 per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($3,302 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Austria (+13.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Tea Imports in the Netherlands

In 2022, purchases abroad of tea decreased by -6.6% to 20K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 30%. As a result, imports attained the peak of 23K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, tea imports declined slightly to $146M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 26%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $158M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

Tea Exports in the Netherlands

In 2022, shipments abroad of tea decreased by -11.1% to 13K tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. The total export volume increased at an average annual rate of +8.9% over the period from 2019 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 48%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 15K tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, tea exports declined to $100M in 2022. Over the period under review, total exports indicated a remarkable increase from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +11.1% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -14.1% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 59% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $116M. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
