Shelled Walnut Price in the UK (CIF) - 2023
In June 2023, the average shelled walnut import price amounted to $5,156 per ton, with an increase of 4.4% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in October 2022 an increase of 12% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $7,197 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to June 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In June 2023, the country with the highest price was Chile ($9,194 per ton), while the price for the United States ($4,635 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From June 2022 to June 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Vietnam (-1.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
Shelled Walnut Price in the UK (FOB) - 2022
The average shelled walnut export price stood at $4,442 per ton in 2022, dropping by -42.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a pronounced contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $8,550 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Moldova ($7,730 per ton), while the average price for exports to Canada ($2,633 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to India (+21.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
Shelled Walnut Imports in the UK
After three years of growth, purchases abroad of shelled walnuts decreased by -0.5% to 11K tons in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 5.4% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of 11K tons, leveling off in the following year.
In value terms, shelled walnut imports soared to $76M in 2022. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +4.1% from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years.

In 2022, overseas shipments of shelled walnuts decreased by -20.2% to 231 tons, falling for the second consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, exports saw a precipitous descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 1.5% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 756 tons. From 2021 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, shelled walnut exports contracted notably to $1M in 2022. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a sharp contraction.
