Pistachio Market Size in the UK

After two years of growth, the UK pistachio market decreased by -X% to $X in 2020. Overall, consumption, however, showed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2012 when the market value increased by X% y-o-y. In value terms, pistachio exports contracted markedly to $X in 2020. Over the period under review, exports saw a abrupt decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by X% year-to-year. Over the period under review, exports hit record highs at $X in 2009; however, from 2010 to 2020, exports failed to regain the momentum.

Exports by Country

Ireland (X tonnes) was the main destination for pistachio exports from the UK, with a X% share of total exports. Moreover, pistachio exports to Ireland exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Germany (X tonnes), twofold. Italy (X tonnes) ranked third in terms of total exports with a X% share.

From 2007 to 2020, the average annual growth rate of volume to Ireland stood at +X%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+X% per year) and Italy (-X% per year).

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2020 figures, pistachio export price decreased by -X% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 an increase of X% year-to-year. As a result, export price reached the peak level of $X per tonne. from 2015 to 2020, the growth in terms of the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2020, the country with the highest price was Sweden ($X per tonne), while the average price for exports to Spain ($X per tonne) was amongst the lowest.

From 2007 to 2020, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Sweden, while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
