The average import price for melons (including watermelons) and papaws (papayas); freshes stood at $1,232 per ton in October 2023, with an increase of 51% against the previous month. Overall, the import price enjoyed a modest expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in November 2022 when the average import price increased by 134% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $2,965 per ton in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to October 2023, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Brazil ($2,619 per ton), while the price for Turkey ($666 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Romania (+3.3%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Overall, the export price, however, showed a slight contraction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 23%. Over the period under review, the average export prices reached the maximum at $215 per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Singapore ($950 per ton), while the average price for exports to Moldova ($103 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Singapore (+6.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
