In December 2022, the average import price for melons (including watermelons) and papaws (papayas); freshes amounted to $1,046 per ton, reducing by -3% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated noticeable growth from December 2021 to December 2022: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +2.3% over the last twelve months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on December 2022 figures, import price for melons (including watermelons) and papaws (papayas); freshes decreased by -3.0% against November 2022 indices. The export price peaked at $542 per ton in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Iraq ($1,017 per ton), while the average price for exports to Saudi Arabia ($185 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Iraq (+11.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
