MDF Price in Serbia (CIF) - 2023
In October 2023, the average MDF import price amounted to $705 per thousand cubic meters, falling by -1.7% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in December 2022 when the average import price increased by 8.8% m-o-m. The import price peaked at $831 per thousand cubic meters in January 2023; however, from February 2023 to October 2023, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Germany ($1.1 per cubic meter), while the price for Romania ($449 per thousand cubic meters) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
MDF Price in Serbia (FOB) - 2023
In October 2023, the average MDF export price amounted to $845 per thousand cubic meters, falling by -12.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price showed a slight reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2023 an increase of 32% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $1.2 per cubic meter. From March 2023 to October 2023, the the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In October 2023, the country with the highest price was Croatia ($1.4 per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Slovenia ($573 per thousand cubic meters) was amongst the lowest.
From October 2022 to October 2023, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Spain (+1.6%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.
MDF Imports in Serbia
After three years of growth, purchases abroad of MDF decreased by -8.9% to 96K cubic meters in 2022. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 9.8%. As a result, imports reached the peak of 106K cubic meters, and then fell in the following year.
In value terms, MDF imports reached $60M in 2022. Over the period under review, total imports indicated resilient growth from 2019 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +14.4% over the last three years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +49.8% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 31%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

MDF Exports in Serbia
In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of MDF, when their volume decreased by -16.2% to 10K cubic meters. In general, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 19%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 12K cubic meters, and then contracted remarkably in the following year.
In value terms, MDF exports shrank to $8.6M in 2022. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +7.7% over the period from 2019 to 2022; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 31% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $9.3M, and then reduced in the following year.
