The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 22% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X cubic meters. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the global exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, fibreboard exports surged to $X in 2021. The total export value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with only minor fluctuations in certain years. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

The shipments of the three major exporters of fibreboard, namely Thailand, Germany and China, represented more than third of total export. Poland (X cubic meters) ranks next in terms of the total exports with a 6.6% share, followed by Russia (4.6%). Turkey (X cubic meters), the Netherlands (X cubic meters), Belgium (X cubic meters), France (X cubic meters), Belarus (X cubic meters), Brazil (X cubic meters), Spain (X cubic meters) and Canada (X cubic meters) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Belarus (with a CAGR of +26.1%), while the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Germany ($X), China ($X) and Poland ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together comprising 33% of global exports. These countries were followed by Thailand, Belgium, Russia, Canada, Turkey, Spain, Belarus, France, Brazil and the Netherlands, which together accounted for a further 36%.

Belarus, with a CAGR of +29.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the average fibreboard export price amounted to $X per cubic meter, increasing by 25% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The global export price peaked at $X per cubic meter in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Belgium ($X per cubic meter), while the Netherlands ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when imports increased by 40%. Global imports peaked at X cubic meters in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, fibreboard imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the period from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

In 2021, the United States (X cubic meters), followed by the Netherlands (X cubic meters) and Germany (X cubic meters) represented the major importers of fibreboard, together mixing up 21% of total imports. The following importers - Belgium (X cubic meters), the United Arab Emirates (X cubic meters), Saudi Arabia (X cubic meters), the UK (X cubic meters), Canada (X cubic meters), Poland (X cubic meters), France (X cubic meters), Italy (X cubic meters), Mexico (X cubic meters) and Denmark (X cubic meters) - together made up 30% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Poland (with a CAGR of +14.4%), while purchases for the other global leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United States ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported fibreboard worldwide, comprising 11% of global imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($X), with a 5.5% share of global imports. It was followed by the UK, with a 4.5% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in the United States stood at +5.6%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Germany (+5.1% per year) and the UK (+4.8% per year).

The average fibreboard import price stood at $X per cubic meter in 2021, surging by 20% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern.
